  • what would you do

i received my peach tree and was a bit disappointed in the roots.
do you think it's a poor tree, the others that i have received had excellent roots and a very strong main stem. This is suppose to be 2 years old. http://i49.tinypic.com/j7etle.jpg
do you think it will be ok or should i contact the seller and complain, what would you do.

I'd send that piccie to them and ask what they think!!!

Nope- I'd not be happy with that- although it might survive with a lot of tlc- but I'd have thought a healthy tree would have had more roots than that!!

I've just planted 2 peach trees - even the one year old tree had more roots than that.
Do as Nicos suggests but I'd be inclined to reject it.

I'm thinking they would agree it needs replacing and tell you to keep the other one and they'll send a replacement.

To have to return it ( as proof) would be a right faff

          That's not a tree ......... it's a stick

Send a letter/email of concern with that pic & a link to this thread

I'm with the others. I wouldn't accept it. Send pic, hopefully they'll replace and save you bother of sending back.

I don't know what the top growth of your tree is like but this is the one year old peach from Blackmoors (still on offer at £6)

Where did you get it from Rita, and how much did it cost you?

I certainly wouldn't be happy with a root "system" like that and would contact the suppliers immediately.

Giving them a chance to do the right thing before playing the name & shame game, that's the fair & right thing to do

Cost is academic,it should be fit for purpose regardless of price

i have sent a photo to garden bargains and awaiting a reply. the other tree's that i have had are wonderful and have a huge root ball, that's why i was so surprised that this was such a poor specimen.
i will see what they come back with, no doubt they will have to check on their suppliers as the tree's can come from many different distributors. i will give them the chance to rectify this situation. thank you for all your advice it is most appreciated.

Garden bargains do not grow trees themselves. They just take orders and forward to supplier who sends them out (same for well known supposedly high quality "t&m" but expensive, which ends out rubbish).

Gardenbargains replaced my lemon tree which got poorly no probs, within a week.

I would not worry, they will just send another one and tell you to keep this one.

On the other hand changing the order which is only a day old is a problem for them. ( know it from experience.)

just an update, as you rightly said Pineberry they are sending me another peach tree, they were brilliant i rang and explained the situation and he said they would replace it no quibble and to keep the other one.
i checked my emails today and they have sent the order through and i should receive it at the end of the month, you can't moan about that, very good service.
