  • Gustissimo two timer fig plant

    Hi all
I have bought a Gustissimo two timer fig plant - first attempt at figs for me. I have read that they need a large container (around a foot).im wondering whether I should start the plant out in a smaller pot until it grows and needs repotting or am better starting where it will end up. Any other general fig advice for container growth would be welcome!
    Thanks in advance

Some good information on fruit tree care here http://suttons.s3.amazonaws.com/PDFs...ee_Booklet.pdf

You'll have to scroll through to find figs, and watch the page numbers because they're not consecutive.

I would think you'd be OK to put it straight into a big pot as it should start growing vigorously now the weather is warming up.

i put mine into an 18ins pot ,approx 18ins deep, with john innes No3, to give it reasonable growing room, after 2/3 years i would repot it to get some vigour back into it or they tend to just fade when it comes to producing fruit, full sun and some shelter will also help, just moved mine into a greenhouse and we have loads more young figs this year,so that has helped us up here...good luck with it..

I have a brown turkey and I am finding that warmth is not enough as this year we had virtually no sunshine up here and the figs grew but lacked their usual taste, very insipid

Thank you for the reply Buffs
I was thinking to get a brown turkey but was wondering if it would ripen up here, thanks for saying it didnt and so confirms my thoughts to look for an earlier variety.
