  • Fan Trained Morello pruning dilemma

The attached photo is how the Morello looks today. This month I pruned the main leaders back by a quarter of last years growth.

Since there are quite a number of "ribs" on this fan there isn't currently room to train side shoots and I feel I will have to remove the ones I let grow last year. How should I approach the training of side shoots for this style of fan, if at all?

One or two of the ribs have areas without blossom (I rubbed some out in error last year) - is there any chance I will get blossom in those spaces in future or should I prune back to a healthy blossom and re grow the leader again from that point?

Any help appreciated - thank you!

I see you are using Gripples too I put a trellis up in my garden and at the allotment with them. Very easy to use but I've used fewer tensioners by running the wire through the full length of the row before using one.

I also need to install one onto a brick wall to train my newly purchased cherry up.
