  • Pound shop plants progress...

I bought some plants from the pound shop and planted them last year.

Thought I would share some photos as this year the gooseberries and redcurrants are doing quite well!

The gooseberries actually have small berrys on them now, though the plant is still very small and thin, is this normal??

The redcurrant is much thicker, though very leafy is not yet showing any signs of fruit. Any advice would be appreiated, I'm still very new to this!

    Thanks

        Looking good Ruby.

The redcurrant won't fruit this year. Next year you should have flowers and fruit on the new branches that are growing this year.

          Pound Shop Plants

I too bought fruit trees from pound shop but only put mine in this year. The two Blueberries have died and gone to plant heaven and the two red currants which I thought had died, have now produced little shoots. I realise it is probably going to to be two or three years before these crop but at the moment they do look healthy. I have put a good mulch of farmyard manure mixed with bark chippings around them so will just wait and see now. Morrisons had red gooseberries for £2.00 each on offer last week so I bought two along with a blackberry. These are now planted in my 'fruit' corner so again it is a case of wait and see.

I also bought a blueberry last year which is doing well, still very small but has fruit developing now. I've not planted that one in the ground yet, which is why I didn't take a photo.

That's exactly what my redcurrants did last year, looked like dead sticks then grew shoots, and this year they are the biggest and fullest looking, just no fruit yet!!

I bought a blackberry plant today from the range, £4.99, but already has little buds on it, so I'll see how it compares!

my blackcurrants came from a pound shop some 7 years ago and now have 16 plants and we are just finishing the ice cream made from last years fruit, probably the best £2 i have spent in a long time, this year all the fruit(except pears)seem to be producing a bumper crop
