  • Raspberry Canes....When do I see some growth?

After considering it the last couple of years this March I went ahead and bought some raspberry canes, they are all autumn fruiting.

Now they have been in the ground now for about 7/8 weeks but they still look like twigs. Is this right or are they just dead?

Never grown them before so dont know what to expect

They'll shoot from the base of the "stick", from underground. The "stick" is the remains of last year's fruiting cane.
    Be patient

It's more than 7 weeks since March, unless it was the very end of March when you bought them.

Can I ask where you got them from, and did you plant them as soon as you got them?

It was the real back end of March, if not the start if April.

I got most if them from a garden centre and there were five in each pot in a bit of earth and bought some from Willis just see the difference.

I put them in within a few days of buying them.

I picked some up from Tesco.

          4 X Raspberry Ploka, 4 X Raspberry (0ther name I forget), 4 X Bluebery and 2 X Blackberry.

To date I have them in pots only and have seen the following:

2 X Polka, 1 other Raspberry, 3 Blueberry and 2 Blackberry have shown signs of growth - the rest look like twigs in pots

          bought March

Don't give up on them. I bought some last year, they were delivered at the end of March, and I saw nothing until May - this is what I put in the diary on 19th May:
"One raspberry is sprouting well, one is budding, and one looks dead."

By the start of July the "dead" one had finally produced a shoot. this year they are all going great guns and are 2 ft tall already. "Nil desperandum"!

eta mine are Joan J - autumn fruiting.
