"Near the end of June, specifically the 23 and 24th, is when the walnuts are traditionally harvested in Italy, although in the center of France, the walnuts are usually just right around the middle to the end of July. They’re perfect to use for liqueur-making when the walnut, and a slightly-crackly shell, is starting to form in the center."
Its a long time since I picked walnuts and I think they fell from the tree when ripe.......wait for an expert to come along

Ha! The squirrels usually get them! I have a lovely old tree and have only managed to collect a few before the squirrels get in first.
You can pickle them if you pick them green - before the shell starts to form inside, test with something sharp, usually June/maybe early July.
For the nut - Sept/Oct
