Moving New (young) Raspberry Canes

I've been growing raspberries along the fence in my veggie patch for a few years now - we get a good crop every year - and there are new canes sprouting all over the place

I grow nothing along the fence along my lawn - seems a shame to waste that space especially when we love raspberries and raspberry wine - so I'm thinking about moving the new (young) canes that are sprouting everywhere

Ideally I'd like to do it sooner rather than later - before they get too big - any thoughts / tips on moving the canes? How much root will I need?

I think it's best to do it when the plants go dormant but if they're all from runners you could just try sticking a few in and seeing what happens.

i transplant my raspberry offshoots all year,bury them deep and keep well watered,if you are putting them near a lawn,you will need to put a barrier down to stop them spreading into the lawn.i lifted some joan j lates about 6 weeks ago into tubs,as they were promised to someone,and they are fruiting away quite happily,i originally bought 10 of polka and of joan j,and i now have to sell/give away about 20 - 30 strong offshoots each season,it might be the really deep topsoil that encourages them..the freezer is groaning under the weight of all the fruit this year....thank you ,the sun,welcome back..
