Poundshop Raspberry confusion

Hi everyone, been a lurker for a while, but this is my first thread.

Last year I bought a raspberry cane from my local pound shop (I also bought a "Blackcurrant" and "Redcurrant" that turned out to both be Blackcurrants, which I discovered this year).

I grew it in a pot, and got a handful of raspberries last year. Then I kind of ignored it this year, until recently. It fruited a few weeks ago, on the old growth, so I figured it's a summer type. But now it's fruiting on all the new growth, and a lot more of it! Additionally, most of the canes have sparse spines, but a few small canes are absolutely covered in spines.

I'm a little confused as to what type of raspberry I have - is it Summer, Autumn, some kind of genetic monstrosity, or have I somehow got two types growing in the pot?

If it's fruiting on new growth, it's the autumn type. These will often give a second crop on the old canes the following year if you don't cut them down, or if you just shorten the fruited canes.

Thanks, I was starting to wonder if all the fruit bushes I'd bought so far were a bit wrong! My 'Thornless' blackberry (from B&Q) keeps putting out thorny suckers, and has a branch with a single thorn on it!

Hopefully next year my whitecurrant and goji bushes will be a bit more normal...

I would say it's an Autumn fruiter, but whatever it is it would be better in open ground than in a pot.

I'd love to put it in the ground, but I was banned The garden's pretty small, I have some space for a few various veg. The handful of fruit bushes I have are all in pretty big pots. If it was my house, I'd have a lot more space taken up with fruit/veg, but it's not my house so I have to compromise
