a white-ish strawberry :)

99/100 or more like 999/1000 when ive grown out experimental seedlings from white strawberries/pineberries (without hybridisation)the resulting seedlings tend to when they fruit be either red/orange/pinkish coloured this one seems to be be like its parents colour only bit better cropping, with a different shaped berry,and more upright growing looks a bit pear drop shaped, an easy naming -white pear drop, in full sun berries pick up a very very slight pink tinge

Wow! I guess it might not attract the attention of birds so much. Can you tell visually when this is ripe i.e. no change from white to red colour to help?

not a single berry loss to the birds on this one,

I do a number of tests (possibly not very scientific compared to the breeders)
in no real order,

1) the white strawberries tend to when ripe have (RED) plump seeds most red strawberries tend to have straw/yellow type seeds so that's one visual sign,

2) not the best indicator as most strawberries vary in firmness, but feel of the berry,

3) another is leave a few berries on to go mouldy to see the darkest the skin will go, this will also give you good ripe seeds for more experiments, this method also gives you a indication and something to gauge an unripe , ripe , and over ripe berry from

4) taste , interesting one as each strawberry varies slightly in taste, I prefer pineberries (the white ones from waitrose) slighty over ripe when they pick up a yellow pink hue a completely different taste from when there pure white, and almost insipid,

an interesting side note about the pineberry type, one type I grow in 3 separate places, over the years gives different results and colours year to year

1) mum and dads garden ( pineberry) white, slight rose /yellow cheeks, insipid
2) my home garden ( pineberry) white , slight yellow tint allover , insipid
3) allotment ( pineberry) complete pink allover, sweet and delicious

I do believe soil and environment and weather year on year does affect strawberry quite a lot

Just wondering if you have ever tried to grow pineberries from seeds, rather than already formed seedlings. I attempted this year but with zero success

I have grown out about 18-20 plants direct from seed of Waitrose bought white pineberry strawberries, all plants fruited this year at 2-3 years old, all fruiting pink-red , no whites in the batch,
one thing I did notice is the seed took what seemed an eternity to germinate,
I have got seeds from some strawberries to germinate inside as little as under a week, whereas the pineberry seeds took months!!! I did almost get to the point I thought that the seed was infertile/sterile and wouldn't germinate all,
