  • Neighbour's Grape Plant

    Hi
A lady down the street from me has a huge grape vine with more bunches of grapes on it than I am count. How do I go about taking a cutting? Would it even work?
    Thanks

I started mine from softwood cuttings taken from a neighbours plant. Cut below a node and use rooting powder if you have it. (I didn't)
Put five cuttings into a 5 inch pot and cover with a polythene bag. They root quite quickly with a little warmth underneath (over radiator)

I've taken cuttings too, as Snadger suggests only not so technical, and I've rooted some in water too.
I threw all my prunings into the compost trampoline earlier this year and one of those has rooted and there's a self seeded one growing in the bed of the GH. I think they just want to grow, whatever you do to them!!

Just put the cutting in a glass of water - like a bunch of flowers
I start lots of cuttings that way!! First sign of roots forming, pot them up

I see the biggest problem to be distracting her while you do the evil deed, maybe get a friend to call her at the front door and tell her there is a cat stuck on her roof. Then you just nip over the back fence and hack away. That should work.
