What do I do with my raspberry cane now??

Well after fruiting, I cut the 2 old canes right back ready for next year - however, the new-growth-this-year cane is going CRAZY!! It's now about 8 feet high and the side shoots are getting on for a 6 feet wingspan! I keep my raspberry in a long trough planter as I don't have capacity to plant it in the ground, and it works very well for me.
So, now do I cut off the side shoots, or cut the top off, or just tie it all together, it's not going to fruit again this year (at least I don't think it will!), it's just growing and growing!!
Please help, it's taking over the patio lol!

When you say tie it in, is that literally just tie it together?

Well, tie it to a support, so it doesn't blow about in the winter weather and break off.

You could cut the side shoots off if they're too big.. but I just tie mine into wire supports. Any current growth you're cutting off will limit the fruit potential next year.

My raspberries have also gone crazy! This was their first year, and were great? I attempted to get in the fruit 'cage' today, was very jungle like! They have grown through it, and are growing in all directions, must be 9 ft? I know I have to sort them, but it is a bit daunting!also have loganberry, that I think has bee swamped by them!

I thought I wasn't supposed to do anything with them until spring when I thought I had to cut them back and let them start aftesh. Im glad I read this now as It sounds as though I should have chopped them before now.

Only chop the ones that have carried fruit Lynne.

I have a couple of massive 8 foot canes that have had no fruit this year. I guess I get shed loads next year!
