  • Blackberries - OK in a trough?

I have a couple of blackberry plants, bought from one of our local cheapo supermarkets (Laldi/ Iddle)

    My question:
Can I grow these in a trough, and if so, what size do I need - my plan is to plant them behind a 3 sleeper high (on edge) wall, between that and the fence. (I have a garden railway running along the top of the sleepers and want something that will be easy to maintain/move if neccessary.) The space I have is 1 foot between sleepers and fence, and about 2 foot from ground level to the top of the sleepers.

They'll do much, much better planted in the ground. Mine is kept 'small' & relatively tidy: it's 7ft high and about 15ft long

    Yes, one plant

      Thanks Two sheds

So, planting in the ground it is, what sort of preparation does the ground need? Do I dig in some farmyard compost (6X) or just turn over the soil and bung them in? To clarify, the soil is fairly heavy.
