Well said. I've found researching my fruit growing experiment quite intoxicating, and occasionally stupefying. Hoping the sore head will ease off soon and some sober decisions can be made. I'm sure any ill-effects suffered afterwards will be offset by the pleasure I had at the time. Not o much feeling fruity as well fermented.

It's why I love this GYO forum. There's a frankly astonishing depth of knowledge and expertise here on every aspect of fruit and veg growing, more than you would find in any book.

Do let us know what you eventually decide to grow and keep us updated on how you get on!

She does indeed have a few small juniper bushes dotted around the tree. I'll pop over this weekend and let he know. As it's not fatal, she should keep the tree. I wouldn't dream of even asking her to part with it. However, I may offer to remove the small junipers and put a few similar sized yew bushes in for her. That might help her tree and potentially lessen spreading to anything I plant. Am I right in thinking it only will affect pear trees?

Anyone have any experience with a variety called Invincible? Looks to be quite resilient in not ideal situations. Might be worth considering. I'm now leaning towards only one QA half standard pear in the ground and putting a pollinator in a large container. Conference looks like a good bet for that and it seems to be a good pollinator for most varieties. Maybe Conference in the ground and invincible or Beth in the container. Pity Concorde will have to miss out, it too looked good. Too many appealing choices!!! Off my a lie down...
