Here are my James Grieve apples for you to compare. The tree is 50+ years old, unknown rootstock.Half the crop has already fallen but I've taken a picture of two hanging on that tree.



The close up is of a very ripe ( and delicious) windfall from the younger James Grieve tree. The circumference is 23cm, height 6cm, medium size fruit.

Thanks. The two look very like mine. The windfall is more red than mine, but you describe it as "very ripe", and it's probably just natural variation. I'm now even surer that mine is JG. One year I'll get round to getting it formally identified by the RHS.
