  • Grapevine suggestions

Going to be looking at planting a couple of grapes in my 10 x 8 unheated greenhouse on the lotty.

Looking for a very sweet eating grape....both red and white which will grow under glass (permenantly planted in the border) and on good, deep, slightly chalky soil.

    Any suggestions welcome

while you're waiting for a personal reply, you might want to look through these: https://www.google.co.uk/search?q=gr...ih=643&tbm=dsc

Have you any idea how big those vines will get? And in a greenhouse you will need more than 8 x 10* to house two in order to get any amount of grapes to make it worth while doing. I grow all mine outdoors up here in the Midlands and they produce rather splendidly if I do say so myself. Due to harvest about 30-40 bunches for making wine next friday night.

Anyway - the best thing to do would be to visit some local nurseries about now, and see if any grapes are ripe, and try one off of a few plants...and ask the nursery owners which would be best in your area.

*unless you mean 8m by 10m, of course...

My first ever cutting i took was a grapevine way back in 1982 as a young trainee gardener. 31 years on, it's still growing under my dads covered patio area and producing lots of inedible (except by the birds) grapes.

So yes, im fully aware oh how fast vines van grow but i have a very sharp pair of Felco 2's !!!! lol

I've just got a crop for the first time off my grape vine called Flame. It's a red seedless and the crop tastes as fine as any I've tasted from a supermarket. If not, superior. I would certainly recommend this variety.

I'm growing mine on a south facing wall with four arms. It's roughly 2.5m tall extending in excess of 4m in each direction (two tires of arms each 2m+ in length).

I planted a black hamburgh this year. No fruit yet obviously but I did plenty of research and it seemed that variety was as good as any.

I've got a Black Hamburg in a 6 x 8 greenhouse. I've got 2 rods, one either side of the apex and have got 20 bunches.

it's even won the odd prize.
