  • Apple trees suitable for north west England

I was going to get the offer for the fruit trees in this months mag that included Braeburn apples. However I saw some of the comments saying it might not do so well in the north. I want a cooking apple and one or two eating apples. What type of apples would do well in 'sunny' Blackpool? I current have a Galaand Redlove apple tree.

It might be worth checking out this Cumbrian orchard group's website, especially if you are interested in more unusual varieties with a local history.

Given the wetness, pretty similar to where I am in west Wales, I'd probably try to avoid varieties prone to scab and canker, plus those better suited to the sunnier parts of the country.
