I need to lift 4 of my blackcurrant bushes as I reorganise a big border[they grow amongst various plants and shrubs, we don't seem to get a pest problem that way) and I will make sure they go into good soil in their new site, but never having moved "fullsized" blackcurrants before, do I need to remove any top growth if they have all winter to settle in?..

I've moved full size fruit bushes before. Usual winter pruning would remove a third so worth doing that first. If you can wait til the leaves have fallen then then the plant will be less stressed. I used micorrhizal fungi with good results and would definitely use it again.

I wont be moving them til all the leaves have fallen, they just seem very slow to drop yet, our bramley apple hasn't dropped any leaves at all yet but are finally starting to lose colour, the blackcurrants are just a week or so ahead with leaf fall.winter is definitely here as its so dark we have the lights on so I can see the keyboard, just need it to stop raining and give us a few frosts to see off the last of the leaves and I can do all those "last" jobs....

just been out to look at how the leaves are falling and was surprised to see that all the apple trees are showing no signs of losing their foliage at all, even after a really heavy frost the other night, looking very rudely healthy and not realising what time of year it is, I wonder if the very late spring has caused this situation?Last edited by BUFFS; 05-11-2013, 02:12 PM.
