Just planted two blueberry bushes on my allotment .Got them from Dorset blueberry company .Lovely plants .Should get a crop next year fingers crossed.

I have just recieved my blueberry bush. Firstly, anyone out there want to swap for a raspberry?

Secondly, I want to repot this for the patio. Does it matter what size pot I buy? Can it be too big? and should normal multi purpous compost be ok? Is it ok to repot at this time of year.

The size pot does not really matter....depends how often you want to re-pot as bush grows, to big a pot might look a little strange.

Compost must be acidic or ericaceous (it will say this on the compost bag).

You can repot at this time of year and in growing season feed occasionally with tomato feed or anything high potash.

organic blueberries

a good organic mulch for blueberries and cranberries is apparently pine needles .will save some from christmas to apply in spring.

Thinking about this brought the question to mind if you compost just acid loving plants and trees together do you get acid [ericatious sp?] compost?
Could Heathers and pine needles with Rhodrodendren dead flowers and leaves work?

sourcing blueberry plants

Promted by this thread I've been researching where to get blueberries, so I thought I'd share... T&M and Parkers as mentioned earlier (3 for a tenner) are 18 month to 2 yr old plants, so will take another season to get to decent fruiting. Dorset Blueberry co do two 3 yr old bushes for £17.50, that will fruit straight away. You pays your money and takes your choice!

But will they fruit straight away? I have always found with fruit that if we have to move and replant fruit bushes that the following season we don't get a very good crop. (although I don't grow blueberries).
