So what common themes are we seeing, where the varieties have more than their fair share of good points?
Old varieties.
Good disease resistance.
Good tolerance of difficult conditions (whether it be hardiness or tolerance of unusual conditions).
Attractive blossom.
Large fruit.
Run a search on the Keepers Nursery search engine for varieties resistant to mildew, scab, canker and a lot of the varieties I've shown in this topic and its predecessor topic will crop up.
Try searching for resistance to two of the diseases coupled with attractive blossom or vigorous varieties and again a number of those shown in these topics will crop up.

Triploids are only found in about one seed per thousand. Yet among the varieties pulled out as having strong disease resistance, far more than one per thousand is triploid or has triploid-like features.
