New Fruit trees arrived - help please!

Hello All

My new fruit trees arrived today from Pomana (birthday pressie from OH!). I have a dwarf apricot and nectarine which I am going to grow in pots. One Stella cherry (I already have one in a pot at home but think I may plant at the allotment) and a pot grown grape - Strawberry vine. Also 2 blueberries - pink Lemonade.

With the weather having been so wet lately I am not sure if it is ok to plant out now or wait til it dries out a bit - what does everyone think?

Also, if I plant the blueberries in the ground, would just adding ericaceous soil to the planing hole be enough or would they be better off in pots?

Any general advice greatly received.

I remember watching about planting blueberries in the ground on gardeners world. Like you said, they suggested digging a large hole and filling with ericasious (can't spell it lol) compost. It gives the plants time to acclimatise to the normal dirt.

I am doubtful that a hole filled with ericaceous soil will be enough for Blueberries, if your soil is alkaline. Might be OK if it is neutral. But the ones I have seen friends [albeit not avid gardeners] growing in pots have not been anything to write home about either ...

Stella cherry is, I believe, properly self fertile, rather than just partially self fertile, so I reckon it will be fine even if on-its-own.

Keep the blueberries in pots unless your soil is neutral, and get the other stuff planted ... or keep them all in pots

I have planted my blueberries in ericaceous soil in large pots which I have buried in the ground up to the rim. I have covered the surface of the pots with spruce needles so the rim is not visible. The blueberries look now as if they were planted in the soil and they don`t dry out so much as if they were just in pots. They seem to like it as they look very healthy.

As long as your soil is not waterlogged you can plant your trees out now. The ones which go into pots can be planted any time even if it is raining.
