  • watermelons.....

My first proper watermelon seedlings have appeared.....
what is the best way to look after them to make sure they will grow into watermelons? at the moment they are inside the window where it is quite hot. I water them whenever they feel dry etc.
never tried anything so exotic before lol.

I have got 3 seedlings through- one is sat on the plot with a bottle cloche protecting it at the mo' I am growing them like courgettes, in soil with loads of manure in it and slightly mounded. I have also erected a wooden enclosure as a suntrap so that when the sun does shine? it will produce as much heat as possible for them and keep the ground warmer. I have not grown them before but enjoying this challenge.

This is my first time with watermelons too. Mine is in the greenhouse in a growbag with cane supports. Will keep you posted as to progress.

      Good luck.

I've put one outside and left two in the greenhouse.

I tried last year with a couple in the greenhouse but the took over the place and there was no fruit at all. Think I might need to pinch them out or something

One thing I did notice. The two cantaloupes I put outside were quickly massacred by slugs but the watermelon was left alone. Something the slugs know that we don't
