I'm hoping to start a gooseberry hedge in my front garden. I got about a dozen good-sized gooseberry cuttings back in November, which have all taken nicely in pots, and I've supplemented those with several bare-roots I bought last month and potted.
My questions are as thus: How would I best train them into a good hedge? The gooseberry bushes I've seen all lay quite low, is it possible to train them a bit more vertically whilst still keeping them open enough to avoid sawfly? And how far apart should I plant them to get a good full hedge?
It won't be the tallest hedge, but it might deter people from walking across the garden and parking their cars straight in front of my front window
