  • Pear tree ... What disease is that on leaf???

    Hi

Just bought a cordon Comice from RHS a week back (pot grown, 2 year old)

Today notice there is something unusual on the leaves, like red small dots on the leave.

What is this ? sone disease? will it spread to my other 2 pear cordons and 2 apple trees?

Also the leaves of all cordons are new but curled up... is that how they are suppose to be when new? old ones have opend up but few are curling up

    Please help..

sorry I can't see anything. Have you a closeup function on your camera? It might have a tulip icon

Red dots on the leaves sounds like pear blister mite: https://www.google.co.uk/search?q=pe...w=1366&bih=651

There is a thread about curled leaves on pears here: http://www.growfruitandveg.co.uk/gra...ree_48053.html

      Hope that helps.

We really need a better photograph, but I believe it is Pear tree leaf blister mite.
If it is, you have done the right thing and removed the infected leaves. Why you have been given fungal spray I have no idea.
Have a read of this site http://curbstonevalley.com/blog/?p=10873
New pear leaves start off curled length ways and then open out---but really need better phots.

            Hi

            Attaching the pucs again
Unfortunately all the diseased leaves I plucked are in bin .. fortunately (well !!) found a small leave with those pink spots..

Hope puc is better this time..

Also 90 of the leaves are curled... even the older ones... I saw in garden centre yesterday that pear trees there have good open leaves and only very young ones are curled...
Is this curl also a disease ? Is it linked to punk spots ?

@Chris - Hi Just checked many curled leaves on the 3 pear trees... nothing inside

Is it a desease or deficiency ... or just stress due to tranportantion from RHS Wisley to Gaywick..

Its killing me more than the tree...

I would leave the tree alone for a bit - don't pick any more leaves off or you will kill it anyway.

Give it a few weeks and see what happens.

2 shots showing what I believe to be Pear Tree Leaf Blister Mite on a different tree.
These 2 are the best of the infected leaves that are left on the tree (as the other leaves have been drowned in a water butt) some were covered in blisters green/red throughout their length. These will stay until I get a microscope up and running--but if they get too bad then they go.

Wondering if this is in some way related to PTLBM or another separate problem?
Time and further investigation will tell.

Would it be possible to move the entire thread to the fruit section?

If it is the fungus then try what you were advised or given but check if it has copper in it, seems that copper based ones are recommended for pear leaf curl - Bordeaux Mixture I think it is called in some form. Suggestions are 2 or 3 sprayings.

If it is a leaf miner then you will need a systemic bug killer, the curled leaves protect the little blighters from the spray - yes they seem to have evolved to defend themselves from our spraying it would seem.
