Mulching fruit bushes

Excuse my ignorance

In large 55cm pots I have

Cranberry
Raspberry
Tayberry
Loganberry
Blueberry
Blackberry

I'm wondering if you recommend mulching them
With manure or grass cuttings or compost

Is there any benefits to do so ?

I'm sure I remember reading somewhere to use grass clippings as mulch for fruit bushes and have put some around the base of my raspberries blackberry blueberry and cranberry plants this morning, will be interesting to see what others say

I mulch everything except onions. Keeps the moisture in and the weeds down!!

there are nothing but benefits to mulching. It stops soil erosion, it keeps moisture in the ground (reducing the need for watering), suppresses weeds, increases worm activity ... I could go on ...

In new pots I top off with bark chippings to help against evaporation. In pots that were there the previous year I top off with slow release granules and fresh compost to add some nutrients, and then a final topping of bark chippings as with new plants

Mulching is good, but can't you plant your fruit bushes in the ground instead of in pots?

How far from the plant should the mulch be? And how much is too much?

Il try grass cuttings ASAP

I have not got the space really at present to put the bushes in the ground
See how we get on with these in pots

I appreciate that generality everything does better in the ground anyway

I have managed to put a green gauge and Victoria plum in the ground
To date both are doing well
