  • Overhanging apple tree

What is the protocol for dealing with overhanging trees from the next plot?
Part of my plot is now being shaded by a rather overgrown apple tree and under normal circumstances I would talk with my neighbour and ask if it was ok to prune it a little. The trouble is I never see them and they tend to leave this part of their plot to look after its self.
Do I cut it back and return the branches or do I have to be more formal in my approach?

I'd have a word with one of the site "officials" and get their input. No matter what we suggest, the site might have their own views on that kind of thing. Better to tackle things their way that look for a consensus here IMHO

Totally agree, talk to one of the committee.
Reduces any animosity between you and your neighbouring plot holder.
Feed the soil, not the plants.

Are there any rules about what fruit trees you can plant? Our site only allows certain rootstocks or to grow to a certain height, can't remember the details.

All it says is fruit trees may be planted but must not shade or obstruct.

I am happy to talk to the site rep and sure he will say prune it, but your all right, I need to use the channels provided.
