  • HELP need please with young GRAPE PRUNING

    Hello All

Bought 2 seedless dessert grape vines, one black (Crimson) and one white (Lakemond)

Both are one year old and were pruned last winter ( in nursery from where i bought them online 3 weeks back)

I am still to put them in ground ( Delay with spport structure coming up)

I want to train them as cordons ( each wine with only two permanent arms on both side from which spurs will grow every season to bear fruits)

I dont want fruit for next 2 years but a very healthy tree with stong arms.

How dont know how to prune them , i know i am suppose to pinch out few growths so the frame is created etc etc.. i read/researched a lot but still not sure what to do ... they look so tender ..

See attached picture ... experts please advice on pruning/pinching and what should I feed them.

1st 3 pics are of Lakemont ( 1st is full pic, 2nd pic is bottom half and 3rd is top half of vine)

4th Pic is of Crimson ( its growing like a very slow bush with anothr growth on the side)

The RHS link has good advice on grape training. There is also another thread with a similar Q posted today. Get a cup of tea ( or wine - it is the hols!!) and have a look through the fruit threads.

Allow the stems you want to grow training them as they grow. Pinch out the tips of the others to keep them under control, DO NOT CUT THEM. When the vine is dormant in the depths of winter you can cut out any stems you don't want.
