Maiden cherry tree flowering

Hi guys,

I bought a one year old cherry tree from a nursery last November and planted it into a large container. A few weeks ago the buds started to open and to my surprise, there are now four flowers on the tree (mainly on the main stem where it meets the two side branches). My question is, should I remove these flowers so that the tree can focus its energy on growing, or can I leave them on?

I would restrict the tree from carrying a "crop", but a few fruits, just so you can check that you have the variety you thought you did, and you like the flavour!, would be OK. You can save a year, if you don't like it , by planting something else now, rather than in a year or two.

But I would not let it carry a "crop".

Leave plenty on to start with, it may drop several, or they fail to pollinate, so I suggest waiting until you have "too many" before thinning them
