Ants on cherry tree

Hi,

Friend has a cherry tree in the garden which gets plagued by ants making the fruit inedible.

Any suggestions on terminating the lil critters

I use a fruit tree grease and make a ring around the trunk of the tree about two inches tall around the whole circumference ... Seems to have done the trick with mine
