  • Japanese Quince and Gooseberry cuttings

About a year ago, I took some pruning off cuts from a gooseberry bush and stuck them around the edge of the large barrel pot that I have a Chaenomeles Jet Stream growing in.

These were put there to try and help deter the dog from trying to eat the fruits on the Chaenomeles but a couple have rooted and are flourishing.

I was looking at the stems on the gooseberry and was wondering when the "right" time to take cuttings is, as I believe these to have been a fluke.

Also, does anyone know whether Chaenomeles is suitable for taking cuttings in a similar manner?

Gooseberry will root easily, pretty much every cutting I have will take, same for red currants and raspberries. I use the prunings in autumn for new plants.
As for any other plants i find my results a little hit and miss!
For the quince I would try several hardwood cuttings in Autumn.
Though some one else may have another idea!
