  • help! Plum tree identification

    Hi
We have discovered a plum tree in the back of our garden. It has been covered in brambles and nettles. We started clearing them away last autumn and now it has fruit on it. There are still more to clear!
I don't remember seeing fruit last year. We have only been in the house 18 months.
    Any suggestions welcome.
    Many thanks.

    Hi,

It might be useful if you could provide some closer-up piccies of the fruit. It can be difficult to identify fruit tree varieties from a distance

And are you sure it really is a plum tree? Could it possibly be a damson tree, the shape of it might suggest it's a damson.

Going to be difficult from the leaves alone.
Would suggest you just wait until the fruit is ready, you do not say if the present fruit is green or blue.
When it fruit is ripe try some, that way you can say if it is a green or blue and if it is edible or more for cooking.

Looks a healthy enough tree, if it is a nice desert plum enjoy it.

It's probably a Victoria plum - they are incredibly common. Also, it has the long branches that are typical of Victoria (although not unique to this variety).
