Best time to hard prune a fig tree?

I know this time of year is the time to prune a fig to 5-6 new leaves, but when I should I hard prune it to reduce the size. I have a Brown Turkey, which perfoms wonderfully each year with hundreds of gorgeous fruit at the end of each summer. However, it has got rather too large for its space now and needs some of the bigger outside branches taken back to the centre of the tree.

I know this will sacrifice some fruit for the following year, but when is this best done? I am thinking either now ..... in the autumn .... or early Spring?
