Japanese Wineberry? or not?

My son gave me a Japanese Wineberry plant which is producing fruit that look like Loganberries. It has loads of very sharp spines. We have Loganberies and they tend to be quite sharp in taste but these wineberries are a little sweeter. I have seen pictures of these on the web and they all seem to be a much brighter red whereas mine do look like a smaller version of Loganberry.

Any ideas?
