Raspberries are struggling (updated)

Hello

I have inherited some of my friends grandfathers raspberry canes last year. They did really well, I cut them back and they were lovely till last month.

They have yellowed leaves, very pale large fruits that are a little hard and a bit brown o some sides. I have taken off the yellowing, dug in some homemade compost and mulched with well rotted store bought manure.

It has rained the goodness into the soil the past few days but I am worries that it might be something else... like iron deficiency maybe?

Anyone got any ideas?

Possibly virus.
If so burn, and replant new canes somewhere else.
Sorry but I think the modern varieties are far superior to the old ones.
I also think(I do a lot of thinking) that 10 years is about the most you can ask of raspberries until they start to go down the tubes.

Great news about my raspberry canes that were struggling lately I gave them extra amounts of fertiliser (not organic I have just read... will do better next time), water and compost mulch.

Where I cut off yellowing leaves and hacked the canes back to allow extra growth, there are new shoots poking through. Just had to baby them and be patient by the looks of things

Raspberries are coming back

Great news about my raspberry canes that were struggling lately. The leaves were turing yellow and looked burned on the tips and there was little fruit that was pale and dry.

I gave them two shots of fertiliser (not organic I have just read... sulphate of postash, sulphate of ammonia and Epsom Salts) water and homemade compost mulch (4 inches).

Where I cut off yellowing leaves and hacked the canes back to allow extra growth, there are new shoots poking through. Just had to baby them and be patient by the looks of things They have got until November 5th to do their thing and then the cut offs get bonfired!

Don't give up with plants, they might just need a bit of time to think things through

I doubt they'll actually fruit this year, but fresh new growth at least means they're making an effort

No, not much berry action but hopefully it'll set them back up for next year
