Woodlice eating my strawberries

I didn't have this problem at all last year, but this year my strawberry towers are getting attacked by woodlice. I noticed quite a few fruit had chunks missing and thought it was slugs or snails, but they continued after putting down pellets. And then I found a couple of fruit with woodlice actually inside (luckily not while eating them!) which made it pretty clear.

What can I do about them? I imagine they could actually be living in the compost as well as around the garden so how can I get them out?

The woodlice usually only go into the strawberry after a hole has been made by slugs, snails or birds. I would start with netting against birds and continue with your slug and snail control.

Blackbirds love strawberries and will peck holes in them - they're quite resourceful and will find ways to get them. They'll flutter up the side of towers or pots.

I've never found woodlice to be a problem - plenty were found hiding under the pots when we've grown strawberries in the past but when the pots were protected from birds the holes went away.

Are fruit with holes eaten in them OK to eat?

I just cut the holey bit off and use them

I just used my fingernail to scrape out the holey bit, then eat the rest
