Hi all..can i ask for your help here guys..I live in the scottish highlands and this year we have started growing autumn bliss raspberry's and so far so good,next year we are hoping to grow a summer raspberry..What summer raspberry would you guys grow in my climate?

All the Glen varieties were bred in Scotland so should do well for you
Soft fruit ? Fruit bushes at Kirkdale Nursery, Daviot, Inverurie, Aberdeenshire, Scotland. Blackberries, Blackcurrants, Blueberries, Gooseberries, Raspberries, Redcurrants, Strawberries and many more.

The Malling varieties were bred in the South, so less hardy.

I dug out all my summer raspberries because they always get infested with raspberry beetle maggots, which have gone by the time autumn rasps (Aug/Sept) comes around

Not come across those, thankfully round here they don't seem to be attacked by anything except birds and the amount I have it doesn't matter too much.

I have Glen Coe from three potted plants which is thornless and non suckering. I planted them last spring. Each day now for a few weeks I have harvested a small handful of fruit, though I tend to pick underripe to beat the birds. Many fruits are small, and when red they are nice and sharp. They deepen to purple and develop a very nice rich flavour. They grow rather tall as I said in another thread, and someone advised cutting off the growing tip at 1.5m height. I have no experience of other varieties, but I rate the flavour highly.

Surely you need raspberries to sucker, as they fruit on new sucker gowth? *confused*

They fruit on last years canes. But new canes arise from the base. I assume suckering involves throwing out underground runners. When I dug out brambles, I discovered that they form small root balls, and send out underground runners horizontally to form new root balls. Basically Glen Coe does not spread out, which is what I wanted.
