Thanks. That's a great idea and so simple. I will certainly be doing that in future years!

I have been training the two slow fruiting melon plants along the crossbeams of the rear greenhouse and we now have young melons swelling hanging there like grapes on a Grecian patio, so I will put lengths of ladies tights around them soon, tied to the crossbeam to support their (hopeful) weight, just need the lovely summer to carry on....must stop dribbling and be more patient..

It pains me to "like" your picture!
I don't have a single Melon loads of Male flowers no Female. What kind of Melon seeds did you use?
I wondering if I should just rip the 3 plant out of the greenhouse. It's not like I need to space for anything tho

Nice melon Binley...that an Emir? Looks very much like the Emirs I grew 2 years ago, they were incredibly sweet. Got 2 or 3 fruit on both my plants in the poly this year, but nowhere near ripe, biggest is the size of a tennis ball.

On the other hand the 2 Melon Ananas plants are not showing any intention of setting fruit. Swings and roundabouts.....
              Are y'oroight booy?

I believe melons like courgettes etc flower male only flowers first then when its a bit warmer and if they are happy produce female flowers. I have got a watermelon red star F1 melon up to around 6 inch diameter and some watermelon jubilee up to tennis ball size in a large polytunnel at the moment. The polytunnel gets sun all day long, dawn to dusk and I started the seeds in early March . Its the best I've ever done in around 4 years of trying.
The honeydew is just starting to produce female flowers,

I don't know if I have any melons or not the cucumbers & tomatillos are trying to take over the world. So I haven't seen any melons but I do occasionally get a glimpse of a leaf

We grew them one time. More for the novelty value than anything else. They fruited but never to anything bigger than tennis ball size, so we gave up....

I grow mine in 12ins pots so they can be put up on end of greenhouse with some canes to grow up. so they don't take up much room. 12ins, that is the minimum size pot I use for melons, we usually get 3 or four off each plant , just a bit bigger than a big grapefruit so with 4 plants we are looking at 9 - 12 fruit, I treat them the same as the toms, water/feed etc and don't crop them til the smell of the fruit fills the greenhouse, if it works up here it should work anywhere so give them another try..

                                Just a quick question.
Some of the leaves on the melon plants have started to turn yellow which I've cut off. I watered and feed them well. I'm just a little worried as we may have a melon starting to grow.
