  • apple tree?

My daughter planted an apple tree with her Granny about 3 years ago, it's lived in a pot since then and is about 30 cm tall.

We want to plant it out on the allotment (no room in Grannys, she already has about 6 plum trees )

Is this an ok time in the year to do it? How old are they when they will fruit? I'm not expecting anything for quite a few years yet

Also, is it easy to move, young but well established trees (several years worth of establishing!!)? There are some near our plot that don't belong to anyone and will be scrapped, my neighbour said about digging them up and moving them over? Will they be ok to move?

    Thanks

You can usually reckon to plant anything from a pot at any time of year (being careful to make sure it's well watered while it's newly planted). Mature trees would be hard to move but it can be done. Best time is really in the winter when they're not actively growing. I'm sure someone will have moved a tree successfully and will tell you how they did it. Mucho digging I reckon!

I agree, I would wait till the tree is dormant, mid to late autum should do it, for both your pot and the trees, if you did it now they will proberbly be fine with tlc but the best time is when they are asleep, they are making babies at the mo and i dont know about you but i would hate to be disturbed. I would wait if you can, but if not go ahead, but be gentle.
