  • Strange blackberry

On a walk yesterday I came across a bramble with what seemed to me to be a new fruit. The fruit was about 1cm diameter and coloured like a blackberry with typical blackberry leaves. The juice was bright red with a 4mm seed in the centre. This wasn't typical fruit for a blackberry as there's normally many drupes to a "berry" but here there was just one and it was the same thing all over the plant. The drupe was far bigger than I've seen on any blackberry so I'm wondering if it's a specific type of blackberry. Any info would be great.

Were all the leaves affected like the one by your finger - it may be a viral infection of the plant.
Whooops - now what are the dogs getting up to?

        Adding a wider image

The leaves don't seem to be infected but I'm no expert.
