  • Grotesque grapevine grumbles....

Good day to all on the forum.

We have a grapevine in our greenhouse - it was here when we moved in a couple of years ago, and we've not really done much to it, other that water it, harvest the grapes and thin it back a bit in the winter. This is in Scotland(!), and what with our weather and it not being the best greenhouse, it doesn't generally get really hot.

However this summer it has started to get some ugly sproutings down at the bottom of the vine (please see pic) - it almost looks like it's trying to throw extra roots.

    What has caused this?
    Is it a problem?
What should I do about it?

My guess (and it is a guess as I know nothing) is that we haven't watered it enough and it's trying to get more water in to itself. (Although the grapes seem to just as plentiful and juicy as last year) Should I build a little bed around this weird bit and cover it with soil?

    Cheers for any advice!

I believe they are roots growing out from the rootstock. I had the same thing with one of my vines this year. I just buried them in soil.
