        Hi,
        I am yet to train mine. However, if that was mine I wouldn't cut, just give it a couple of years to grow with me shaping and tying in as it goes. Then depending on how much growth it has put on would be the point I then start cutting. That is only my opinion.

          Have you planted it where you intend it to grow? Or is it still in a pot?
          I've no idea about pruning figs (as you probably know already!) but I'm tryimg to train a peach by putting up a framework and tying the branches to it as it grows. The bits that won't go in the direction I want, are cut off.
          If I had your fig tree, I'd do the same
