HI everyone,
I've just recently acquired an allotment (hurrah!) that has on it a few fruit trees. I realized too late that the plum tree had brown rot but I managed to salvage some before they all went. Now I realized the quince has got it, and the fruit are getting brown spots on them before they are ripe. Knowing they will all go fast I've started picking them to try to save them (there are a lot!) but they are still fairly green and fuzzy.
How best can I ripen them?
And, if they start to rot more off the tree (most have some brown on them, and I presume the rot will just spread on them) can I make jam with them, even if they are very underripe? anything I'd need to do?
finally, if I cut back the cankery branches and get rid of all the bad leaves, what are the chances of it not returning next year?
thanks!
