Quick question about wild blackberries

Having grown up in a city centre, I'm hoping you'll cut me some slack here when I ask what is probably one of the more stupid questions ever to have been asked.

I've found what looks like wild blackberries pretty much in the middle of nowhere. I'm planning on going back and picking some. Am I right in thinking if it looks like a blackberry then it IS a blackberry and there's not some poisonous plant out there that masquerades as a blackberry lookalike?

I can handle poisoning myself but I wouldn't like to kill the kids.

Growing in the hedgerows then "Yes". Vicious thorns would confirm it

P.S. Taking a walking stick, or similar, will allow you to pull high-up or awkward-to-reach branches towards you ...

enjoy them , i have just spent the morning foraging and got about 5lbs of blackberries. I don't know why but the wild blackberries always taste so much better than the ones i grow on the allotment. I have the blackberry crumble in the oven ready for dinner !!!,

We have tons of wild blackberries this year, blackberry and apple crumble...yummy!

Gardening Gal, yes, if it's got thorns you should be ok! You could always post a photo on here if you wanted to be doubly sure.

Mr TS thought raspberries and blackberries were the same thing until recently: he thought the rasps were just unripe blackberries

I made a very nice blackberry crumble from foraged fruit recently. However I used a recipe that cooked the crumble bit separately. Much nicer and less stodgy. Google apple and blackberry crumble.

Mine are from next doors! They squeeze through any gap in the fence and I just leave them be until ripe and then eat them! Neighbours have a jungle of a garden but I don't mind as it is teeming with wildlife that visits me - in my tidier-ish garden too!

Apologies for not acknowledging your replies sooner.

Anyway, thank you for all your help. I did go and get them and we had them with ice cream. There were loads of berries on the bushes but most of them weren't actually ripe enough so we only got a few that were juicy and sweet.

I'm going back soon to get more, hopefully more of them will be ripe and ready to go this time.

@Two sheds, I think I'd like your OH, he'd make me feel quite normal and amongst like minded friends.

Before I knew better, I also thought the black ones were blackberries & the red ones raspberries. You're always learning at this game. I think that's why I love it so much.

Picked a few pounds yesterday and made blackberry jam last night. Had some on toast this morning
