My daughter and I picked some strawberries off my plot the other day and every single one of them was mushy... it didn't matter whether they were green (the ones... ahem... my daughter picked) or red so certainly not over-ripe! I asked my allotment neighbour if he knew how old the plants were (I took the plot over last October) and he said he didn't know but thought they were a few years old. He suggested it might be a virus, however his strawberries are fine. Any ideas? Thanks.

It's usual to replace strawberries after 3 years or so - maybe they're just past it? I've not heard of this problem before - maybe someone has a remedy - or could it be the variety? I'd be tempted to re-stock with a good one.Whoever plants a garden believes in the future.
