Pear problem

Could anyone advise me what this growth is on the leaves of my pear tree?? On one side of the leaf is the growth and the other side is the red and orange patch. Many thanks

I've got it too , no idea what it is but have removed all affected leaves and burnt.would welcome any suggestions as new tree this year and don't want it to spread

This is pear rust. It is a fungal infection, which lives on the pear tree over the summer, and over-winters on nearby juniper and similar trees. Therefore the best cure is to remove the juniper trees ... although invariably they are in someone else's garden!

Fortunately the infection is not usually fatal to the pear tree, and if you keep it well watered and cared for it should survive.

My pear trees get this every year. I tackle it by removing and destroying the infected leaves as Snakeshack said, (don't compost them!) and it doesn't seem to cause any real problems.

My pear tree is next to a horse chestnut with the fungal disease so not much chance of the pear not getting it again. I leave the leavess on and just carry on.

Yes, pear rust.
Mine get a few spots most years, with maybe a single spot on one in twenty leaves.
I used to pick off affected leaves because of the horror stories, but in recent years I haven't bothered and the problem hasn't got any worse.
