I have some joan j,i know to cut them down to the ground early next year,my question is,is it because,if they were to be cut down now { early autumn},will it make them want to send up new shoots to early,if not what is the reasoning behind it,if its for frost protection, would a covering of fleece or mulch do the trick,i do not want to cause them distress,as they are really nice and gave me a wonderful crop this year, still getting the odd smaller ones, thanks in advance peeps,
