I've been picking up pear windfalls and some of them are covered with ants!
a few look like slugs have had a go at them....could the ants be sampling the actual fruit?....or could it be the ants and not the slugs which made the shallow holes in the fruit?
the pears are quite firm and certainly not rotting
just wondering cos there must have been over 100 ants on the pears over about a meter of ground under an espaliered pear tree. And no, it's not on an ants nest.
