Where to plant peach/nectarine/apricot?

After this year's success with an Amsden June peach, in a pot, in a polytunnel, I want to grow some more stone fruit trees - probably a nectarine, an apricot, maybe another peach. Open to suggestions on other types of fruit and varieties please.

I'd also welcome some advice on where to grow them.
The options are:-
In pots in a GH (paved base so have to stay in pots)
In pots or in the soil in a polytunnel
In pots or in the soil in a netted "greenhouse"
In the garden.

Unless they are in the garden, they will have to be trained to keep the height and width down.

I have a peach,i have it in a pot and keep it undercover in the GH except during Summer. They are prone to getting peach leaf curl if out left in the rain between Nov-June

I'd better get my two summer self seeded nectarines under cover then. They are still babies (about 40cm tall) but I don't want to lose them as they were so determined to grow - out of the bottom of my dalek. Is it just protection from rain splashes they need, Scarlet?

Yes, just the rain. I read up on it when I was given mine. I fancied growing it outside but after reading this https://www.rhs.org.uk/advice/profile?pid=232 I decided to keep it in a pot and move it out when my toms go in. If they are grown outside it is advised to cover them over with some plastic sheeting.

I have mine , one apricot and one peach in pots in the greenhouse, each plant had 3yrs training a decent stocky (compact) branch system and get plenty of peaches with the apricot to fruit next year. make sure the g/house is always well ventilated, as said above they don't mind the cold its the rain that does the damage. if you follow the advice (as I did) you wont go far wrong..

what did you decide to get VC? I'm looking at my plot and considering where to put one. east facing outside next to the greenhouse or shed, or inside the greenhouse in a pot.

I lost all my peaches this year due to winter style night temps persisting well into july, and that's in a greenhouse, but the apricots seem to have flourished and we are days from getting our first crop of fruit, starting to soften up nicely...

How's the apricot coming on? I'm thinking it may be the best option for me but the extra care of a pot is putting me off.

My dwarf peach has spent the whole year in a pot in the tunnel, firstly because of peach leaf curl but then because it was horrible. It gets moved around quite a lot depending on what else is growing in there and it's had the hot corner while it's been ripening its fruit. I've had 10 peaches from it and two to come. They taste amazing, comparable to ones grown in a Mediterranean climate. I am seriously thinking about ways of having other dwarf/small fruit - trouble is I keep coming back to another tunnel which starts to make them expensive. @Veggiechicken do you not get leaf curl under the net then?

The Amsden June peach is in a pot and has been in 3 different GHs/tunnels so far. Has never been outdoors or under net. Its at the far end.


I bought the 3 dwarf peaches this year and they're under net but I'll rig up some sort of extra cover when its peach leaf curl season. Haven't really thought it through yet.
They're beautiful little trees and only cost £5 each from Home Bargains. The flowers are gorgeous but no peaches yet.





The Apricot came from H0meb@se, because I had some vouchers to spend. Only had it a couple of months so early days yet. Its in another GH. No photo!

I love the one in your greenhouse, is it all your own pruning work? Very impressive. £5 peach trees the fruit and taste good will be even more impressive!

I have an east facing greenhouse that gets little sun outside growing season. Does that matter?
