In the wilds of Sussex today. Happened upon a fruit farm with shop, so went and had a look. Mainly apples for sale, but also a couple of pear and plum varieties.
I bought a selection comprised of Queen Cox, Egremont Russet, Rubinola, Spartan, and Red Pippin; basically all the ones available I've not tried before.
Of these, I was most taken with the Egremont Russet. It is quite a different taste to the apples I usually buy. I found the Spartan to be the least remarkable.
The farmer told me the Rubinola - though technically a dessert type apple - apparently cooks quite well too (if done with the right ratio of sugar).
