  • Apricot help

I bought a apricot tree in January this year. I have it planted in a large container and have kept it in the greenhouse. It has only managed to grow a few tiny leaves, and these are only on the tips of the branches. Do you think there is something wrong. I have alot of other fruit trees in containers and they were covered in leaves in their first year. Anyone have any ideas.

I also bought a bare rooted apricot early in the year. I also have it in a large pot, but I have it outside with the intention of only bringing it into the greenhouse during it's flowering period, as it's frost susceptible.

Mine seems to be growing fine outdoors and I seem to remember reading that the trees are very hardy!

    Just a thought!

PS If you were to put it outside now you would nead to gradually aclimatise it....harden it off!

Likewise snadger, mine sits out all year and only comes in when its in flower. I dont think that they like the hugely fluctuating temperatures that you get in a greenhouse.

I think I should do the same and put it outside. I have a peach tree in the greenhouse that has fruit on it at the moment, do you think It should be outside too.

Right...Andi got an apricot tree for his birthday. Now we're a bit at a loss as what to do with it!!
Is it possible to plant in the ground as opposed to a pot(apparently it grows to be a big one!)& just drape with some fleece if frost is expected whilst in flower?
the fates lead him who will;him who won't they drag.
