I bought some Glen Ample from the garden centre recently at my daughter's request (having no idea what to do with them). I read this on RHS website and thought I'd do them in pots:

"Container growing: Single raspberry plants can be grown in 38cm (15in) diameter containers of 80 per cent multipurpose compost and, to add weight for stability, 20 per cent loam-based potting compost, training the canes up bamboo poles".

When it says to train them up bamboo poles I'm not sure I know what it means - will one pole do, or should I create some sort of trellis/wigwam/something else?? Any ideas?

You won't need a trellis. I guess three poles (an equilateral triangle) in the pot with some string round to create a sort of cage would stop your canes flopping but I will happily bow to any superior knowledge as I have never grown in pots.

PS. I just don't have enough time to say hello to everyone as they join so please take this as a delighted to see you here!

I got my Glen Ample as primocanes last year from Suttons , enjoyed a good crop last year, just re planted them last weekend. They were in a raised bed along the fence and that wasn't a good idea ( hard to reach - maybe because I made the beds a tad too wide - doh ) but also I think they will do better if they are spaced properly and fanned along the wires . I've got about 7 in this bed but I've got 2-3 growing amongst my flowering perennials as well
